Welcome to Grey Matterz Hypnotherapy

The truth is that you have already experienced what it is like to be in hypnosis and I would be surprised if you have not been in hypnosis already today.

One of the most frequent questions I'm asked, almost daily infact, and what people are most unsure about is what hypnosis actually is and how it will feel to them.

I usually answer one of two ways, the first being:-
Have you met any deaf children? Dinner is ready and you call them, and they are so engrossed in a film or computer game that they simply don't hear you? It is often (not always) genuine, they fail to hear you because they are in a trance like state (hypnotised).

and the second being:
How about when you're driving your car... it's a familiar route you've been along many times before. When you arrive at your destination, you realise that the journey has flown past without much thought to the actual driving.
Can you remember how intently you concentrated when you first passed
your driving test?

Your subconscious mind basically takes over for the most part of your day, trained over many years to think it knows what is best for you. It has been taught by you and that lesson has been reinforced over years of behaviour patterns adopted by you.

Being under hypnosis is like being very relaxed on a chair or sofa while you watch a good movie. You are aware of your surroundings but you choose to remain comfortable and engrossed in this movie. You can hear other sounds but you're focused on this movie and so you choose to ignore the other sounds. Well, this is hypnosis.

You're seated on a chair or sofa and the hypnotist will guide you through a series of visualisations, this allows your body to relax completely and, in time, your mind follows the relaxation.

It is at this point that the therapist continues communicating to your subconscious mind and intervening with therapeutic positive suggestions. These enable your subconscious to learn new behaviour patterns.

That really is hypnotherapy in a nutshell.

I've put together 10 simple reasons why everyone
should learn to use hypnosis:

1. Hypnosis is natural and normal; you pass through hypnosis as you go to sleep and as you wake up.

2. Hypnosis allows access to your subconscious mind, the part which knows just what to do and just how to do it, the part which acts automatically and spontaneously.

3. When in hypnosis your creative mind comes to the forefront so you can use imagery and visualisation for therapeutic intervention more easily. Images become more vivid and therefore more real, explaining why hypnosis is so beneficial to sports performance.

4. Visualisations created while in hypnosis are also a very beneficial way in which you can gain relief from many physical ailments, such as IBS relief, depression relief and anxiety relief.

5. You can use hypnosis to create a zone state and in effect have tunnel vision for more powerful direction of thought and intent.

6. You can learn self hypnosis at home with the help of hypnosis CDs. You get better at it with practice, so you can learn to access deeper states as you wish. Even though mild hypnotic states are perfectly effective for therapeutic intervention.

7. Hypnosis creates an REM state, the same state which you access each night as you dream. This is the state of mind which is essential to natural and easy conflict resolution. With hypnosis you can get your conscious and subconscious minds, your logical and creative minds working together. In this way you can overcome a feeling of "being in two minds" and instead create a feeling of alignment and balance.

8. There are no uncomfortable side effects to hypnosis. In fact, the "side effects" are good - you feel relaxed, calm and comfortable; worries and tensions just fade away. This makes hypnosis a great way in which you can learn to change mood easily and it is a natural antidote to anxiety or the "fight or flight" response.

9. Hypnosis is a natural state of relaxation, and when in hypnosis your heart rate slows down as does your breathing and your blood pressure naturally lowers. Almost like taking a mental massage and you can use your mind whilst in hypnosis to feel as if you have had a physical massage as well.

10. Hypnosis allows you to look within, to access the inner workings of your mind. Everything in life starts with how you think about it. If all you want to do is to change your attitude towards something hypnosis will be a great help. If you want to take things a step further, and change how you act as well as how you think, hypnosis is invaluable.
